Saving caulk for later use

I have several tubes of caulk in my basement that have been opened and are now dried out. I was watching a home improvement show and they had a bunch of tips on how to save caulk tubes. There was one that I have adopted with great success. I screw a wire nut on the tip of the tube. The threads of the wire nut cut into the plastic of the tube and create a nice seal.

Other options I saw on the show were using duct tape or sticking a nail in the opening. I haven't tried any of these options but if I was out of wire nuts, then I would probably go for one of them.
